LEED Silver on the Chief Seattle Club project

August 11, 2009

SEATTLE, WA: Walsh Construction Co./Washington has achieved LEED Silver on the Chief Seattle Club project. It will be listed in the USGBC database as Monterey Hotel Renovation.

Chief Seattle Club is a three-story structure built in the early 1900s, located on a tight downtown site with a limited staging area. Adapting to the restrictions of the site, the WCC team brought in a small self-erecting tower crane to set the steel for this extensive renovation. Chief Seattle Club's new home is at the ground floor and basement levels, with 11 work/live apartments on levels two and three.

Energy recovery systems include rainwater captured on the roof and solar heat panels that supplement the boiler system. Over 80% of construction waste was recycled or re-used. Natural light was increased with light-walls installed in the basement floor. Sustainable and recycled materials were used in wall insulation and finishes.
